Call out:
Phone call received from Michael Miller to ask if I would help with an emergency board up at their store located at 604 Polk St. Houston, TX 77002. Knowing the severity of city-wide damage, A Plus Construction Services, LLC was prepared to mobilize for emergency services. Within 38 min of our initial phone call, general labor (GL) had arrived on site waiting for Jay Salinas (PM) to arrive shortly after with some of the materials needed to commence with the emergency board up and clean-up efforts.
First Impressions upon arrival:
First Impressions were to safely start picking up large and heavy debris and centralizing its debris into the middle of store to commence with the clean-up efforts.
Scope of work:
Forman and GL started to measure and cut lumber needed to safely board up exposed cavities in the store front glass areas. Glass panels that were damaged measured 132”-5/8 x 65”-1/2” so a total of 18 sheets of OSB 4x8 ½” board needed to be cut and used to safely board up open cavities. 2X4 lumber was cut and used as blocking to avoid causing further damage to the storefront frames. During the clean up efforts, the PM took a moisture reading of the baseboard panels and they measured 23% in certain areas. Our PM felt that with the heat of the two large ovens being left on throughout the night and closing up the open cavities; the moisture in those baseboards would dry up on their own. No fans or dehumidifiers were used as we felt we acted quickly enough to avoid a mitigation team and mitigation services. Upon completion at 2:30 am, our crew (considering how late it was) did not have enough material needed to fully cover the exposed storefront glass panels as we left an opening of 36” x 65” open at the top of each damaged area; the second crew the following day finished the board up process.
